SUMMARY:Return to Light :: Yoga for the Winter Solstice
DESCRIPTION:Monday 12 June\, public holiday 1 – 4pm in Richmond BOOK HERE Get prepared for the shortest day and the longest night of the year that marks the rebirth of the Sun\, a new beginning. Activate your intentions for the new beginning\, turn inward and awaken the light of your inner fire\, learn to see in the accustomed darkness of the winter. Synchronize your breath to movement that’s strong and intuitive. Go slowly\, and let go of what no longer serves you so that you may clear the slate for all that is coming your way. “You are what your deepest desire is.As your desire is\, so is your intention. As your intention is\, so is your will.As your will is\, so is your deed.As your deed is\, so is your destiny.”–The Upanishads This program includes an intro to the spiritual significance of the Winter Solstice\, Asana (yoga exercises)\, Pranayama (breathing practice) and Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation) all facilitated by Swami Gopal. SUMMARY:Meditation Retreat ~ Living with Peace\, Joy & Compassion
DESCRIPTION:Rediscover why connecting with your heart is essential for your wellbeing and transformation. We each have the potential to live with wisdom\, love and joy\, beyond the limitations of a busy mind. This non-residential retreat weekend facilitated by Natalie Snooke is a beautiful opportunity to dedicate time-out to nourish and cultivate the pure power of your heart. Learn skills and practices to strengthen the inner peace\, joy and compassion within yourself and to release the obstacles that get in the way with greater ease. Uplift your spirits in like-minded company. And positively transform the circumstances and relationships in your everyday life. Is this retreat for you? So much of our stress and dissatisfaction in modern life arises because we live in increasingly disconnected\, fearful and reactive ways. If you feel any of this\, you are not alone. By becoming skilfully present with the heart\, you make a profound shift. Responsiveness replaces reactivity. Your actions at home and at work have greater impact. You tend to attract love and opportunities. Life becomes more of a flow than a struggle – and you awaken to your true Self. This retreat is open to men and women (aged 18+) and is beginner-friendly! Complete beginners to meditation as well as those with prior meditation/yoga experience or other spiritual practice\, are welcome. The only prerequisite is a willingness to learn and to be present. If this resonates\, then we’d love to have you along. What to Expect We will explore guided and silent meditation and mindfulness practices that stabilise the mind and heart\, supported by reflective (and fun!) group activities that allow for practical learning and integration into daily life. There will be a balance of formal guided practice\, self-enquiry and quiet time in nature. The retreat also includes a delicious\, nutritious supper\, buffet lunches\, chai and afternoon snacks\, all lovingly prepared by Grace (Natalie’s Mum!) Dietary restrictions are catered for. Benefits\, Learning & Gifts You will be gently encouraged and supported to honour yourself\, and to participate as fully as you can: Explore the Brahma Viharas\, the ‘Four Faces of the Heart\,’ and their immediate benefits – loving kindness\, compassion\, joy and equanimity;\n\nClarify and embody the difference between reaction and response\, closing and opening\, fear and love;\n\nPractice authentic guided meditations and mindful movement\, both with instructions and in silence;\n\nLearn from the presence and guidance of an experienced teacher with a passion for meditation;\n\nBegin or refresh a personal meditation practice with session recordings to take home;\n\nFeel a sense of deeper connection and acceptance towards yourself; and\n\nReceive a retreat gift pack: eye pillow\, journal and more! Our venue is the quiet ambience of St Christopher’s Memorial Hall\, its tranquil gardens and the nearby bushland at Point Walter in Bicton. SUMMARY:Yin & Pin (Yin Yoga and Acupuncture for Cancer Patients and Survivors)
DESCRIPTION:Weekly 75min session (4 week Program). This unique 4 week program consists of weekly 75 minute Yin Yoga and Acupuncture (Yin and Pin) facilitated by registered yoga teacher and breast cancer survivor\, Claire Evans and experienced acupuncturist Sarah Hennessey.  During the final relaxation of the session Sarah will insert acupuncture pins into therapeutic locations (wrists\, ankles\, hands\, face and neck) on participants which will remain in place for approximately 15-20 minutes.   Melbourne Integrative Oncology Group provides evidence-based complimentary medicine and therapies  for patients with cancer and is hosting these sessions at their Bentleigh East practice.  Please contact Claire for further information.  Cancer can cause a range of physical symptoms and treatment side effects\, dependent on the type of disease and treatment undertaken.  Psychologically\, a cancer diagnosis can trigger anxiety and fear relating to uncertainty about the future. Emotional distress in cancer patients is associated with sleep disturbances and altered stress hormone function.  Yoga practice\, however\, helps to encourage the body to relax and to calm the mind.  The key difference between yoga and other forms of exercise is the role the breath plays in practice.  Mindful attention to the breath and meditation can help support a shift in perspective and bring about positive changes in thoughts and behaviours.  Acupuncture has been shown to have many benefits for people with cancer including helping to control cancer-related pain\, relieve symptoms induced by chemotherapy treatment\, reduce cancer-related fatigue and improve overall sense of well being.
