DESCRIPTION:The way I have offered support and guidance for others through yoga is by an invitation to join me on a journey. For over 20 years the majority of participants in my in person classes have enrolled for a 10 session term. This has given us the opportunity to experience the richness of exploring an overarching theme. Feedback over the years has affirmed that this is valuable and helpful so I am inviting you to our ongoing journey in this mode of online recordings. Each 3 month period offers within it one or two overarching themes that provide a focus for our practice together (to see what has been offered since autumn 2020 please scroll down).  You can join the current journey (seed) and add as much additional content as you would like. SUMMARY:Yin & Pin (Yin Yoga and Acupuncture for Cancer Patients and Survivors)
DESCRIPTION:Weekly 75min session (4 week Program). This unique 4 week program consists of weekly 75 minute Yin Yoga and Acupuncture (Yin and Pin) facilitated by registered yoga teacher and breast cancer survivor\, Claire Evans and experienced acupuncturist Sarah Hennessey.  During the final relaxation of the session Sarah will insert acupuncture pins into therapeutic locations (wrists\, ankles\, hands\, face and neck) on participants which will remain in place for approximately 15-20 minutes.   Melbourne Integrative Oncology Group provides evidence-based complimentary medicine and therapies  for patients with cancer and is hosting these sessions at their Bentleigh East practice.  Please contact Claire for further information.  Cancer can cause a range of physical symptoms and treatment side effects\, dependent on the type of disease and treatment undertaken.  Psychologically\, a cancer diagnosis can trigger anxiety and fear relating to uncertainty about the future. Emotional distress in cancer patients is associated with sleep disturbances and altered stress hormone function.  Yoga practice\, however\, helps to encourage the body to relax and to calm the mind.  The key difference between yoga and other forms of exercise is the role the breath plays in practice.  Mindful attention to the breath and meditation can help support a shift in perspective and bring about positive changes in thoughts and behaviours.  Acupuncture has been shown to have many benefits for people with cancer including helping to control cancer-related pain\, relieve symptoms induced by chemotherapy treatment\, reduce cancer-related fatigue and improve overall sense of well being.

Join Yoga Spirit Community and celebrate International Yoga Day with us\, which includes Yoga\, Meditation\, and Ayurveda presentation with a Gold Coin Donation.  A part of the donation will be going to The Hutt Street Center. International Yoga Day is celebrated to promote the practice of yoga to achieve physical\, mental\, and spiritual well-being. and we are delighted to celebrate it with you. Sunday 18th June at Yoga Spirit Studios from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Every year the 21st of June (Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere) is celebrated as the International Day of Yoga. The celebration of International Yoga Day at YSS will include- 1) Gentle yoga and meditation session by Dawn from Always You Yoga & Relaxation and  2) A presentation of Ayurveda (Indian medicine system) by Anamaya Ayurveda on Ahimsa -Living Well! We will also be celebrating the second birthday of YSS in new ownership! There will be lots of giveaways\, discounts\, and refreshments.
