About Jean
B.A.Hons, Grad Dip Ed, Dip Childbirth Education, Grad Dip Psych, Bsc Hons (Psych), PhD.
Jean began practising yoga at the age of 19 while completing a Bachelor of Arts in World Religions and Philosophy. Her study of world religions led to an interest in yoga and meditation and she spent many years intensively studying yoga and meditation in India. Her academic and personal journey into Eastern philosophy and practice led her to Mysore, India where she spent years studying with the Jois family, until #metoo hit the yoga community. Her teaching encompasses Ashtanga Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Intuitive Flow and Vinyasa classes.  Jean is dedicated to sharing the transformative power of Yoga and loves working with students and carefully and safely watching the way in which both mind, body and spirit open and unfold through practicing steadily.
Jean specialises in Mind Body Interventions leveraging her academic research and professional experience to help people be well and have a deeper encounter with their life. Education and program design are key passions for Jean who is a registered primary school teacher and is sought out to lead the development of health interventions, along with the training of practitioners to deliver them. Jean is currently a Chief Investigator on Australia’s first clinical trial of Psychedelics for pain and Australia’s first yoga intervention to help Autistic children with their anxiety and Australia’s first clinical trial testing yoga  against Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
Jean has lectured in Eastern philosophy at various Australian universities and has a PhD in Eastern Philosophy & Feminist Theory. Jean is co-editor of the book, Yoga in the Modern World: Contemporary Perspectives (Routledge 2008). She writes for yoga magazines, yoga websites and academically her work is published in books and peer reviewed journals. She has undertaken the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Professional Training retreat with Dr Jon Kabat Zinn and conducts Mindfulness-Based research projects.
Jean is a Research Fellow at Curtin University and Co-owner of The Yoga Space, Mindful Birth and Wisdom Yoga Institute.
