Yoga Australia is managed and run by a team of dedicated staff and volunteer committee people. Most of our team-members are part-time.

What is Continuing Professional Development (CPD)?

CPD is intended to ensure teachers regularly upskill and study each year. It consists of small learning activities that develop your knowledge, skill, and professionalism. Learn more about our CPD policy here.

Yoga Australia requires Yoga Professionals to accrue 12 CPD points in each membership year. Note: for Yoga Therapists a minimum of 9 points specific to Yoga Therapy is required.

What you need to know:

Yoga Professionals must accrue 12 CPD points by 30th of June each year. Note: for Yoga Therapists at least 9 of those 12 points should be specific to Yoga Therapy.
First Aid counts for 1 CPD point. You must have a current First Aid certificate to be a member of Yoga Australia, and you can claim 1 CPD point every year for meeting this obligation. Annual CPR Refreshers are recommended but not required by Yoga Australia. If you do a CPR Refresher, you can claim 1 extra point.
The topic of “Mental health, trauma, and cultural awareness” is now a mandatory CPD category. Members are expected to accrue 2 points per year from activities in these areas. We recommend you start with our free CPD Short Courses:

How do I calculate CPD Points?

Interactive learning refers to in-person or online activities that involve discussion, feedback, examination, or review.
These earn 1 CPD point per hour.
Passive activities are watching a video or listening to pre-recorded audio. These earn 0.5 CPD points per hour.

For example:

Watching a 1 hour video earns 0.5 CPD points, since it is passive watching
Watching a 1 hour video and submitting a short summary is given 1 CPD point, since it involves passive watching as well as review and writing
Receiving mentoring from a senior teacher is worth 1 CPD point per hour

Yoga Australia also provides high quality CPD Short Courses with quizzes that provide 1, 2, or 3 CPD points depending on their complexity. Successful completion of these courses automatically updates your CPD Tracker in the dashboard – you do not need to use this form!

CPD FAQs:

CPDs can be accrued from sources outside of Yoga Australia.
CPDs can be accrued through yoga-related research and self-study. Simply state the author, title and a short synopsis of the text you studied.
CPDs run in alignment with your membership year (not the calendar year).
If you need to track a half point, please wait to accumulate 2 half points to track 1 full point.
