The Yoga Factory 150hr teacher development course is all about getting teachers teaching, equipping them with the necessary skills to be able to teach effectively, skilfully, safely and inclusively.

The main facilitator of the program is Mick Barnes, the owner and teacher at The Yoga Factory, and the idea of creating such program came to his mind after he has witnessed too many teachers complete teacher training courses and NOT have any idea how to teach as they were never actually given that chance while doing their teaching training diploma. Therefore our course is completely hands on. It is broken down into 3x50hr blocks:

50hr of learning safe ways to guide students hands on energetically while practicing. You will learn these assists with Mick privately, then practice these with our other teachers at The Yoga Factory, and finally in class while assigning and assisting.

50hrs one on one with Mick, learning an effective way to sequence classes and understand the importance of fundamental asanas so practice progresses. You will also be assigned and instructed sequences gradually and slowly, which you will then teach in a live class setting. These assignments will also include teaching, Kriyas, Pranayama and giving talks on some of the more important philosophical texts and Sutras.

All these will first be gone over with Mick and practiced before you assign them.

The last 50hrs will be where you assign all your tasks as above and when not assigning you will be assisting both Mick and the students in a live class.

This 150hr development course is all about teaching. There is no time spent wasted on the things you learnt in teacher training which really gave you no actual teaching experience in the classes. This is primarily about you becoming the teacher. The course is adaptable and is done at our studio at Annandale. Ideally you would do between 7 and 10 hrs a week. This would include 2x2 hr sessions with Mick and then 2 classes a week, where you give or get assisted while practicing, and also do your set assignments in the live class. This development course is designed primarily to get you teaching confidently and safely.
