Professional Insurance
A tailored insurance solution for you
Yoga Australia recommends the following minimum yoga teaching insurance cover for members:
- $20m Public Liability
- $5m Professional Indemnity (malpractice), preferably $10m
There are other important considerations, such as cover for student and locum teachers and cover for multiple modalities and coverage overseas.
We recommend you obtain professional advice and carefully consider which insurance policy and company best meets your needs.

The GSA policy provides an unlimited retroactive date, this means past work in relation to the currently listed Professional Services is covered.
It is imperative that all circumstances that may give rise to a claim are formally notified to GSA as and when you first become aware of the incident to ensure that the Insurer can consider providing indemnity.
However, in the event that you fail to notify a Known Circumstance* before moving to GSA the policy includes an extended continuous cover clause, which may provide cover in the event that you fail to notify a Known Circumstance given the terms and conditions of this clause are met.

The policy provides cover for the provision of the listed professional services online subject to policy terms and conditions. This includes both pre-recorded and live classes.
The Professional Indemnity territorial coverage is worldwide however; Jurisdictional coverage is restricted to AUS/NZ. This means that should you have a client attend say an online class and they are located in a country outside of AUS/NZ then they are still able to bring a claim against the member however, the claim needs to be brought FIRST in either AUS/NZ jurisdiction. If the claim is not first brought within the AUS/NZ jurisdiction then the policy will not cover you for the claim. Note: The member MUST be domiciled in AUS/NZ. The policy will not respond to member’s physically practicing from an overseas location without prior approval. If the member is doing a substantial amount of work in locations outside of AUS/NZ then it would be wise to either obtain a full worldwide coverage or take out a local policy in the location where the majority of their clients are.
No specific Pregnancy Yoga qualification is required, as long as you are a qualified yoga instructor then that is sufficient for the policy to respond in the event of a claim arising from teaching a pregnant client.
