What I love about yoga is that it's for every body!
You're never too old or unfit to do yoga - it can be tailor made to suit the individual. My teaching style reflects this truth. Working closely with the breath, you are encouraged to develop self awareness, and supported to work at your own pace, adapting and adjusting within the limits of your fitness and flexibility - without competition - to achieve a sense of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing.
My yoga journey began over 20 years ago when I noticed that woven in and around the postures, breathing, relaxation and meditation I was doing in class were teachings on philosophy and lifestyle that deeply influenced my way of 'being' - not just on the mat, but off the mat in my busy daily life. I was so inspired by this holistic approach to life that in 2006 I completed an Advanced Diploma of Yoga Teaching at Nature Care College - and I have been teaching Hatha Yoga from the heart ever since.
I am just as passionate about yoga today and continue to travel and draw inspiration from my ongoing studies in Restorative Yoga, Meditation, Pranayama, Mantra and Meditation. I acknowledge with gratitude the influence and wisdom of my teachers, Judith Lassater, Donna Farhi, and the Krishnamacharya tradition.
In 2018 I completed my Yoga Therapy Graduate Certificate, and am excited at the opportunity to offer Yoga in this form.
What is Yoga Therapy? YT is a self empowering, holistic approach to wellbeing, using traditional yoga methods to create a personalised and evolving take home yoga practice, tailored to your individual needs. Yoga Therapy offers a safe and supportive environment. Working one on one, or in small groups, sessions focus on alleviating your specific condition, reducing symptoms, helping manage disease and improving your quality of life. Using a broad range of tools, and taking into account your unique characteristics (including breathing patterns, emotions, intellect, diet, lifestyle, and the musculoskeletal framework of the body), you are encouraged to take charge of your own healing and empowered to create positive and sustainable change, so that you can maintain health and wellbeing and manage the daily challenges of life... the original essence of Yoga!
I teach restorative/gentle yoga (mindful stretching and strengthening, with the use of props to promote renewal and healing); general hatha yoga (a more dynamic practice for beginners to intermediate yogis), men only yoga (to promote focus, strength and flexibility), private classes and yoga therapy (for individualised attention to specific needs).
Most recently I have completed training in seniors yoga, chair yoga and yoga for disability.
