Hi
My name is James, and I am a physiotherapist, senior yoga teacher, & registered yoga therapist.
I enjoy teaching yoga with some ongoing classes lasting now over 18 years. Time flies bye...
I spent some time studying Ayurveda and this is reflected in my teaching style of Hatha Yoga called ayuryoga - I adapt practices for peoples individual variations. I prefer using principles rather than distinct rules of how to do things.
Within a small group we delved into Tantra over 10 to 15 year period, especially Vijnana Bhairava Tantra. This introduced to idea that meditation practice needs to also be personalised.
Teaching for over 20 years I have had contact with many great teachers including Donna Farhi, Judith Lassater, Dr Loryn Roche, Simon Borg-Oliver, Ian Clark, Swami Muktibohananda, … and various yoga traditions Isha Yoga, Himalayan Institute, Satyananda, & so forth.
Worked with teachers online in training courses from Yoga International, and explored an area of special interest "Yoga for Bone health" with Dr Loren Fishman & Elene Saltonstall.
There is so much great yoga knowledge out there, though there is time when what discover from within is also very important.
I have spent time on yoga/ayurvedic committees such as Yoga Australia, Vice President for Australian Association of Yoga Therapists,. Vice President for Australasian Ayurvedic Practitioners Association.
As physiotherapist I have worked in hospitals, defence health, community health & private practice. I have always interwoven non conventional practices with my physiotherapy. Early on with Chinese Medicine & Tai Chi, and later Yoga. This brought into the arena of yoga as therapy & clinical approaches to yoga. Holistic ways to help people when they are confronted by conditions or ill health.
In my early days I explored the philosophy & martial arts of the East in depth. I studied with many great teachers & was privileged to be able to establish the Tai Chi & Wushu Club at Melbourne University in the early 90s with Radhika Randall & Liang Changxing & is still going to this day.
I have co-authored 2 books YOGA+ & Stronger for Longer, produced a dvd yoga+ & various audios, and now have strong presence online with a Youtube channel with many Yoga related videos.
I have presented many workshops, for associations IYTA & YA, conferences, community organisations, and Yoga Fest. These have been a great way to share yoga.
I also write a monthly eNews on health tips & yoga and have been sharing this for over 15 years.
Besides yoga I love the out doors, and to run & kayak.
