Back

Carmel is a senior yoga teacher and yoga therapist who has been teaching yoga since 2004.

After constantly witnessing the benefits of yoga on the wellbeing of her students, she has pursued a greater understanding of yoga psychology and trauma. She strives to integrate the traditional teachings and practice of yoga and Ayurveda with a western understanding of stress and resilience.

Since her initial training she has been an ongoing student of Yoga, Yoga Therapy and Ayurveda, with influences from teachers including, Saraswati Vasudevan, Dr S Ajit, Amy Weintraub, Leanne Davis, Judith Lasater, Janet Lowndes, Michael de Manincor, Sally Flynn, Bessel van der Kolk.

For over 8 years, Carmel has been doing yoga therapy and yoga classes with clients of Qld Health Metro South rehab. These clients all live with a mental health diagnosis.

She has also worked in multicultural mental health as part of an outreach team teaching alternative ways to manage stress and mental health challenges.

In her mental health classes as well as regular classes Carmel strives to build community and connection. She sees these as vital for the wellbeing of students and wider community.
