Discover the power of the core as the foundation for strength, stability and wellbeing.

In yoga, the core is the centrepiece behind every posture and transition, coordinating movement, grounding the breath, and giving shape to the practice. Whilst the core is central to our yoga practice, we may fall short when guiding our students in helping them experience a deep core connection. This short course offers a practical, integrated approach to deepening the connection to the core. You will review core anatomy, explore the energetics of the core, and be guided through practical exercises from Japanese Yoga to reconnect with this essential element. You’ll also consider how to bring this awareness into your own practice and teaching.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Identify the functional anatomy of the core, including the diaphragm, abdominal wall, and pelvic floor, and describe their integrated role in breathing, stability, and postural support.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the core as a coordinated system, and apply this knowledge to movement and breath within yoga practice.
  3. Articulate the yogic perspective of the core, including its energetic significance and relevance to safe and effective practice.
  4. Demonstrate essential core-focused Japanese Yoga exercises, understanding the value of clear, appropriate cueing for these exercises.
  5. Integrate core principles into class planning and sequencing, enhancing student awareness, stability, and embodied connection.
