I started practising yoga in the late 1990’s and have over the years delved deeply into Asana, Pranayama and Meditation under the guidance of dedicated, long-term practitioners and teachers, including Eve Gryzbowski, Mardi Kendall, Trevor Tangye, Lino Miele and Clive Sheridan.
Early on my focus was on the physical aspect of yoga. I practised Ashtanga Yoga for many years, enjoying the physical aspect and flow of this tradition. What it taught me was the benefit of having a dedicated, daily practice and the importance of the breath.
Life is often busy, fast-paced and filled with a myriad of responsibilities. I have found the more gentle approaches to a physical practice, such as Restorative Yoga, can be a wonderful way of creating more balance in life.
I started The Yoga Shala in Port Macquarie in 2004, which was the beginning of many years of teaching and learning, community and many, many inspiring events, workshops and concerts. I developed a love for sound healing when travelling friends introduced me to the sound vibrations of the Gong and other sound healing instruments and I now incorporate the sounds of crystal bowl into many of my classes.
I’ve been attending workshops and retreats with Clive Sheridan for the last 15 years or so, delving more deeply into Pranayama and Self-Inquiry, combined with a strong Hatha Yoga practice. This combination has opened up doors to a deeper understanding of myself and the world we share.
After many years of dedication to my studio and my community, I closed the doors of The Yoga Shala in 2023 to create the opportunity to get some rest, spend time in nature and share yoga with those outside my local community, while I’m travelling in our beautiful country.
My favourite way of teaching is at retreats, where there is plenty of time to connect with each other and share yoga without the usual time constraints of a yoga class.
