Biography

Bio

After spending some time in hospital in 2015 experiencing mental health challenges I was recommended to try Yoga. I did not believe it would be of any help to me as I couldn’t sit still at the time and I am lets say not the most flexible person in the world. 4 days after leaving hospital I tried a class, I felt trapped overwhelmed and scared, but slightly pleased I had been right in my pre-judgement of yoga.

My community support team however still felt I would benefit from Yoga and kept trying to get me to go. Whilst out walking I saw a sign outside a local dance studio advertising Yoga for all, Ok let’s give that a go and shut my recovery team up. I walked in with the intention to go to 3 classes so I could report back I had given it a fair go and then never go again. I basically shared this information with the teacher Alex, expecting her to be annoyed at this but instead she said that’s fine, thank you for joining us and being honest, even if it’s an hour off Facebook it might make a difference!

I never looked back. Alex and I are firm friends, and she was an integral part of my recovery journey and still is. In 2017 as a volunteer at Fremantle Hospital with a friend we started a yoga group for patients on a Saturday afternoon. Inviting them to share our space and find their own Yoga path. The group is still running and after completing my teacher training in 2021 I have been facilitating the group and have had the pleasure of meeting many amazing people and sharing in their journeys.

My passion is to share my experiences with others and invite them to have the chance to experience Yoga in a safe environment and see if it works for them.
