I started yoga in 1971. I completed 2 teacher trainings, one Iyengar style, the other hatha yoga through Nature Care College. I’ve presented teacher trainings since 1988. My connection with yoga has been constant ever since I started, now 53 years of practice. As an almost 80-year old, my exercise and movement regime consists of barre classes, weight training, bush walking, tennis, pilates, as well as yoga.
In 2010 I underwent bi-lateral hip surgery which resulted in two artificial hips. Several years ago I was diagnosed with osteoporosis. It’s important that I keep active, strong and flexible as I age. This year I became qualified in a particular exercise/movement system to help those with osteoporosis.
Equally as important to me as these physical methods are the reflective practices of yoga: yoga nidra, restorative yoga, loving kindness meditation and pranayama. These help me touch into my inherent good and kind nature. And hopefully foster these qualities in others and contribute to peace in the home, our neighborhoods and the world.
