Biography

Bio

As a civil engineer, I worked on a variety of projects in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore Africa, and Australia, providing me a vast amount of human interaction and relationships. I also directed the applied research program in our company and published more than 20 papers at international conferences.

I also bring this experience into Yoga teaching and community work, where detailed planning and research including presentation skills are essential

My community teaching experience with Yoga

I had since 1999 taught Yoga and meditation in the community – Willagee Community Centre, WA, and various other locations. The estimated teaching time is around 500 hours. Whereas my personal practice of Yoga exceeds 3,000 hours. I also volunteer to teach Yoga practice at various prisons in WA, and other community centres as my “giving back” to the society

The asanas were collated and delivered to both seniors and young people. The teaching is ongoing till now. I take the approach of relating all eight paths of Yoga and modern science, and also emphasize the spiritual aspects of Yoga and not just the physical aspects of Yoga.

In addition, I also explain the importance of Yoga, the ancient health science of Ayurveda to understand our inner workings, chronic health issues such as stress, hypertension, diabetes to empower people to take their physical and mental health destiny into their own hands.

I also maintain my own Professional Indemnity Insurance and Public Liability Insurance for Yoga teaching.

I have been practicing Asanas and meditation for more than 20 years and teaching for more than 15 years.

My aspirations for a Holistic Yoga Course to achieve physical and mental balance:

My aspiration is to create a Holistic Yoga Partitioners Course with in-depth training on all eight Limbs ( or Angas) of Yoga, including Asanas, Dhyana, Dharana, Samadhi, Yama, Niyama, Pratyahara.

This encompasses practicing HUMAN VALUES, DISCIPLINE, SUSTAINABLE LIVING ( through vegetarianism to reduce suffering, as well as land and water footprint on mother earth of the individual and the community), Meditation ( Light meditation encompasses Dhyana, Dharana, and Samadhi), etc. The course will include the spirituality aspect of Yoga allowing people from all faiths or atheists to adopt the practice based on their belief system.

After Accreditation with the appropriate bodies, this course will be offered in Modules to the community ( at community centres), in Schools, etc.

In my interaction with teachers, parents, etc during my community work, I realise there is a great need for values-based Yoga education, sustainable living, and unconditional love and service to fellow humans in the community. Therefore my Yoga teaching course is intended to include aspects of Yama, Niyama, Prathyahara, Prana Yama, Dharana( Concentration), Dhyana( Meditation), Samadhi ( Equanimity ) as well as the Asanas.
