The Art of Support: Leg Support in Restorative Yoga

This is the 2nd part of a three-part online webinar series (45 minutes each session) exploring the principles of support in restorative yoga: head, legs, and arms/hands.

You can book the other sessions here:

Session 1 | 6 August | Head Support

Session 3 | 20 August | Arm + Hand Support

The way we support the legs can significantly influence the body’s ability to release unnecessary muscular effort, creating a greater sense of stability, grounding, and ease. Through practical demonstrations and guided exploration, we will examine how thoughtful prop placement can reduce tension, support comfort, and encourage deeper rest.

In this session, we will explore:
Why leg support matters in restorative yoga
How supporting the legs can reduce muscular effort and create stability in the lower back
Different ways to use props to support a range of bodies and postures
How to observe and refine your restorative setups for greater comfort and ease.

By the end of this webinar, participants will:
Understand the principles behind effective leg support in restorative yoga
Develop greater confidence in adapting leg support for different bodies and needs
Gain practical tools to create greater stability, comfort, and ease in restorative yoga practices.

About the Presenter:

Rocío Marte is a Restorative and Somatic Yoga Educator based in Australia. She supports individuals and communities in cultivating deep rest, nervous system regulation, and embodied awareness through restorative yoga, somatic practices, and meditation.

With over a decade of experience in yoga and mindful movement, Rocío specializes in practices that help people slow down, reconnect with their bodies, and restore balance in the midst of modern life. Her work integrates restorative yoga, somatic awareness, and yoga Nidra, offering spaces where participants can experience safety, stillness, and meaningful rest.

Rocío is particularly passionate about supporting people who are used to living in constant doing—high achievers, overworkers, and those who find it difficult to pause. Through her work, she helps people gently step out of cycles of overworking and productivity-driven identity, creating space for deep healing through rest, inner reflection, and compassionate awareness.

Her approach invites participants to release guilt around slowing down and to rediscover rest as a powerful and transformative practice. Rocío teaches workshops, trainings, and classes for both students and yoga teachers, with a trauma-aware and nervous-system-informed approach, supporting people in developing sustainable practices for resilience, healing, and a more liberated relationship with rest.
