Profile:

David first discovered Yoga (asana) through the warm-up and cool-down sessions of a Parkour group in London in the mid-late 2000’s. Having been drawn to all kinds of movement disciplines throughout his life, from team sports (basketball, football, rugby) to solo endeavours (running, surfing, martial arts, parkour) he quickly fell in love with the physical aspects of Yoga, and sought out more dedicated classes. Over the next decade, his commitment to his practice grew as he emigrated from London to Melbourne, until he eventually decided to delve ever deeper, and completed his 350 hour teacher training at Australian Yoga Academy in 2018.

Since then, continuously spurred on by the desire to share with as many people as possible the myriad aspects of Yoga, from its more tangible, grosser layers (such as physical movement, breathwork), to the more subtle (e.g. the spiritual and philosophical teachings, the varied meditation practices, the benefits of stillness), he has completed additional certificates and courses in: Yin Yoga (50hr), Myofascial Release (55hr), Mindful Trauma-informed Yoga (20hr), Yoga Nidra (20hr), Yoga for Athletes (25hr), Meditation (inc. Foundations with Ash Brown, Traditions with Tias Little, and Vedic meditation induction with the School of Philosophy), The Art of Alignment and Adjustments, Purposeful Sequencing, and many others. David finds the world of Yoga to be an inexhaustible well, with so much to draw from, and so many paths to choose. He loves being an eternal student himself, and hopes to share some of this passion with the students attending his classes. His teaching encourages a strong focus on marrying breath with movement, and an understanding that we must listen to our bodies and honour how they feel each and every time we step on (or off!) the mat.

He offers private and corporate classes/workshops and mindfulness sessions, and you can find him in regular studio classes at the following beautiful studios: Estuary Yoga Space (North Melbourne); and Westside Yoga (Seddon). Please get in touch if you’d like more details:- d.gorvett(at)gmail.com
