Biography
| Bio | Tanaya is an accredited Yoga Therapist, Yoga Teacher, Ayurvedic Lifestyle Coach, and Author. Her work is centred around the mind-body connection and the psyche’s key role in illness, wellness, and the healing process. With experience spanning over three decades in mind-body research and practice, at the heart of Tanaya’s philosophy is the belief that yoga offers a transformative path, accessible to all who seek it, regardless of physical capacity, age, or belief system. Drawing from a rich foundation in both Eastern and Western mind-body disciplines, Tanaya completed a Bachelor of Dramatic Arts, specialising in Performance Studies and Human Movement, at Melbourne’s Victorian College of the Arts and Victoria University of Technology. It was amidst this intensive training in the 90’s that she first explored the body’s ability to express and indeed, repress its truth. Gaining insights into how the mediums of prose, movement and sound could combine with yoga as a powerful pathway to healing the mind and body, her work today integrates yoga’s ancient methodologies within the realities of the modern world. Tanaya has studied with a wide range of esteemed teachers across diverse traditions, including the Krishnamacharya and Kriya Yoga lineages, shaping a practice grounded in both classical wisdom and contemporary application. She brings over 10,000 hours of teaching experience to her work, supported by more than 1,500 hours of accredited training in Yoga and Ayurveda, and further deepened by extensive non‑certificated studies undertaken across India, Spain, Indonesia, the UK, and Australia. Her foundational teachers include Vijay Amar, Sal Flynn, Trish David, Caroline Robertson, and Bernie Clarke, each contributing to the depth and breadth of her approach. Guided by the wisdom of Taoist, Buddhist, and Yogic philosophies, Tanaya continues to refine her practice through ongoing study, with particular inspiration drawn from the Kriya Yoga lineage. She holds deep reverence for the teachings transmitted by Swami Kriyananda, Paramahamsa Hariharananda, Paramahamsa Prajnanananda, Asha Nayaswami, Nischala Joy Devi, Dr. Vasant Lad, Dr. Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, and Ajahn Brahm of the Theravada Buddhist tradition, whose work continues to shape her understanding of Yoga and Buddhism as complementary pathways to healing and self-realisation. Motivated by the increasing need for holistic healthcare that addresses root causes rather than symptoms, Tanaya is dedicated to expanding the accessibility and recognition of Yoga Therapy in Australia and beyond. She is a leading advocate for its role as a complementary and effective support for mental health conditions, trauma recovery, addiction, and complex mind-body imbalances, and continues to contribute to the evolution of Yoga Therapy as a respected therapeutic discipline. Tanaya works with individuals and groups both in-person and online. She is the creator of several live and online workshops, trainings, events, and publications including:
When she’s not on the yoga mat, Tanaya is a registered civil celebrant, and divides her time between Perth and Denmark in Western Australia, where she lives with her favourite humans and her furry companions—Florence the Dalmatian and Turbo, the rescue cat. |
