Yoga from Menarche to Motherhood

In Yoga from Menarche to Motherhood, Kylie Hennessy offers a profound exploration of women’s psychological, physiological, and emotional experiences throughout significant reproductive transitions, including menstruation, fertility, pregnancy, and motherhood. Integrating ancient yogic philosophy with contemporary body-mind science and trauma-informed principles, Hennessy challenges conventional healthcare approaches that often overlook the interconnectedness of psychological distress and embodied experience.

This transformative guide is not just a resource for yoga teachers and therapists; it is a vital tool for counselors seeking to adopt holistic, person-centered practices. Hennessy emphasizes that these reproductive transitions evoke complex psychological processes involving identity, attachment, vulnerability, and grief, extending its relevance beyond reproductive well-being to encompass trauma recovery and loss.

The book provides practical applications, including class plans and somatic practices, designed to support women during these critical life stages. Hennessy invites practitioners to recognize how bodily experiences interact with unconscious conflicts and societal expectations of womanhood, fostering emotional regulation and self-compassion.

Ultimately, Yoga from Menarche to Motherhood encourages a deeper understanding of embodied psychological experiences, reminding practitioners that healing involves not only what clients think and feel but also how their personal histories and relationships shape their sense of self. This insightful resource promotes clinical curiosity and compassionate engagement, making it essential for anyone working with women’s mental health and life transitions.
