Criteria have been developed to assist training providers in achieving high level outcomes for their students. This bolsters the profession of yoga in the eyes of studio owners and the public. Level 3 Registered Teachers and Level 2 Registered Teachers (with support from a Level 3 Teacher) can deliver Teacher Training Courses in Australia. Much of our support is offered to prevalent styles of yoga in Australia (those centred around asana and hatha techniques), and this curriculum equally supports schools who teach seated practice and meditation. All forms of yoga are covered, and schools rooted in the traditions of the Upanishads can develop a qualification under this model. A professional development course must contribute to at least one. Most contribute to two or three, and there is no expectation that a course reaches further than it honestly goes. The competencies fall in three groups. Conceptual, competencies 1 to 4, is the technical knowledge of yoga. Procedural, 5 to 8, is teaching craft shared with every teaching profession. Professional, 9 to 12, is the conduct, scope and standing of a yoga professional. Training drawn from an adjacent discipline commonly contributes to the Procedural group. On approval, Yoga Australia names the competencies your course was approved against. The certificate your graduates receive lists those competencies, and it may carry the Yoga Australia professional development badge.
